Psychonauts

one of my favorite games ever! started replaying (for the third time now?) on a whim. looks great on my parent's big new tv. i forgot how much i love the artstyle and way they use "mental health words" as game concepts like health, mana, collectables etc. hopefully i can replay the second one again soon too.

Raggedy Ann & Andy: A Musical Adventure (1977)

oug!!!!!!! what a cute movie! obscure too, sadly couldn't find a subtitled version or any subtitle files, so i'm gonna make my own. didn't think i would get so horribly attached to two ragdoll siblings, but here we are. new sewing project afoot?

raggedy ann & andy poster

Dungeon Meshi

watching this with my awesome friends (:3). good thing, because i probably wouldn't have found the time or motivation to do so myself.

studio trigger, doing your magic once again!!! some wonderful cuts in this thing. i need to study the character's like bugs. liking the premise, excited to see where the end of season 1 goes.

dungeon meshi poster

Windowkill

i only played this game for a short round, so i have yet to give it a proper try. but i really like the concept, and the dnb type music that started playing as my run began was a pleasant surprise too.

Steven Universe

my beloved. my favorite. most important cartoon to me. the show ever. noone did it the same

fantastic music, fantastic visuals, fantastic voice-acting, beautiful wonderful. rewatching the series now i get why i've heard people say that rose quartz is the ultimate "haunting the narrative" character. long before we even get a proper animated visual of her she's always present, in the form of steven's gem, objects and people she's left behind, as well as the memories the crystal gems and greg have of her. the criticism of the ending of the show is understandable, i do wish they were given more time to wrap everything up (FUCK CN), but i think they did wonderfully, reinforcing the point that steven is his own person and has been from the moment he was born. wait why am i talking abut the ending im like 30 episodes in. whatever. peace and love on planet earth

steven universe poster

Nidus

very cool indie game i've been following for a while! i was wowed by the 2d animation, and am glad to play it now. i'm not very good at it yet, even on the easiest difficulty, but i'll get the hang of it!!! can only recommend if you're not sensitive to flashing lights and stuff.

nidus poster

Despicable Me (2010)

i know anything with the minions has a reputation of being kind of CRINGE or FACEBOOK MOM CORE now but this movie genuinely rules. it's been a LONG time since i've seen it, and it holds up. iconic

The Super Mario Bros. Movie

just about what i expected: cute and inoffensive. not much else to say. great visuals tho, and i enjoyed the soundtrack!

Hazbin Hotel

i cannot believe got into two pieces of media at the same time that both have cheery princessess protagonists who regularly sing and dance. (see below). insanity. and i'm deeply attached to BOTH of them. good job guys

i saw hazbin hotel on my (very legal) tv-show-watching-website and thought "oh wow. is that a thing?". coincidentally it was the exact day the first batch of episodes came out. i'm not one to shy away from shows / games / whatever that have lots of discourse around them, so i gave it a watch, and IT WAS LITERALLY FINE!!!

my biggest criticism so far is that, jesus christ, this is NOT a show where 8 episode seasons are gonna be enough to explore every character. there's so many people. i've already half forgotten about the V's (apart from valentino because i want someone to obliterate him), barely gave a shit about what that one overlord sang about with vaggie, and even the main cast suffers. i feel like the setting they're in would allow for so many episodes of them just doing silly bullshit so we can get to know them better, but alas, it wasn't meant to be. genuinely makes me sad. it's already confirmed there'll be a second season, but the first one is already over after 2 weeks... like c'mon

apart from that, i thought the songs were REALLY hit or miss (that's mostly just my taste i think), and the visuals are kind of overwhelming at points. more specifically some of the character's have REALLY detailed designs that make it hard to see what's going on, especially in group shots (main culprit here are sir pentious and husk i think. what is happening with those fucking wings??). but otherwise i actually adore the visuals. i love the artstyle, and the little drop shadows on characters. there are some really nicely animated moments as well.

hazbin hotel poster

Trolls Trilogy

watched these three movies over the past 1-2 weeks with my friends (hi!!! hiiiii!!!!!) and they were very cute! i usually prefer 2d-animation but the 3d in these looked really good. it was really funny to see the line in context. poor branch. if there's a fourth one i hope we see the rock trolls again, as well as veneer. i admire my boy for willingly going to prison but also let him OUT!!! poppy my beloved!!!

Baba Is You

a very cute, and actually pretty challenging puzzle game! you move little blocks and text around to make up conditions (such as the name's title) that will affect aspects of the current puzzle. you really have to think outside of the box and turn your brain inside out for this one.

baba is you cover

That Which Gave Chase

i found out about this game through social media. a short atmospheric horror game, maybe an hour or two long. you give a mysterious scientist a ride on your dog sled, on the way to where he and others did work. i will be honest, i thought the story was rather confusing to me, and pretty open ended, but there were enough clues to try piecing together what happened there. strange mushrooms growing on the ground of the arctic, deer not only surviving but thriving in the arctic conditions, a man whose intentions aren't properly readable throughout any of it. a very unique game, i recommend if you like short, spooky indie games.

that which g ave chase cover

Slayers X

a boomer-shooter style game based on a character in hypnospace outlaw (another fantastic game!!!). very fun, short and sweet, played through it in like 2 days. the cutscenes are my favorite thing. so dramatic, the audio is perfect, and i love that they were always jpg'd to hell. loved the graphics too. if i ever manage to make my own games, that kind of aesthetic, or atleast fidelity, is exactly what i want to aim for. beautiful stuff

slayers x cover

Noita

my brain was itching for rogue-likes, and i got this on a sale. pretty hard game!! you play as a tiny wizard dude and go down into earth through different environments, with increasingly strong foes. the funniest part was how i beat the final boss; i don't think i was strong enough for the final two areas at ALL, but i got an effect that made me teleport anytime i got hit, and somehow it got me all the way down. incredible stuff

noita cover

Cruelty Squad

i had already played cruelty squad one or two years ago, closer to when it came out, but i never made it past archon grid, and i never unlocked all the secret missions.

i've never seen a game that is so deliberately disgusting. like, it's a SKILL to make something so off-putting. i love the game, all of its fucking absurd, challenging, and frustrating parts. going through it a second time, with a guide when needed, was a great time. i got all the endings! yay me. definitely didn't catch all the fish and get all the guns though. the developer is working on a new game called psycho patrol r, i'll be there when it comes out.

cruelty squad cover

Amid Evil

another newblood game, a cool boomer-shooter esque game with magic wands and a fucking AXE!!! very cool environments, played through it in a few days.

amid evil cover

Lethal Company

me when i try to walk out of the fucking mansion but there's a GOD DAMNED NUTCRACKER WHAT THE F

insanely funny game, works great in singleplayer with the help of mods too. hope i can play more with others soon!

ULTRAKILL: Violence

the first big update i got to experience live, and it was glorious... new, fun to fight enemies, awesome world building, incredible atmosphere in all the levels, and probably the coolest layer-boss yet. can't wait for the rest!!!!!!!!!!!1

i've managed to install this version of ds1 including dsfix, do i can play this game again on the big screen!!! it's been a while and i was really craving some souls action again.

Scott Pilgrim Takes Off

i've only seen the original movie once, and forgot alot about it since i've watched it. this series looks absoltuely fantastic though, and i'm enjoying it alot. my favorite scene is when kim and knives are jamming together with their instruments, just beautiful

Viscera Cleanup Detail

a game in which you clean up the messes left behind by various bloody sci-fi scenarios. i didn't think i'd like this game this much!! but i've already got around 60 hours. just got the dlcs left but maybe i'll go back and 100% some levels. highly recommend, great while listening to videos n stuff.

very nice puzzle game i've had my eyes on for a while. fun mechanics, fun conepts. i recommend if you've got a few hours to kill!

SPYxFAMILY Season 2

my friends and i watched the first season when it came out uhhh... like a year ago? i don't remember. but it's a really cute show. we're watching s2 now :)

Spy X Family poster

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3

my absolute number one childhood game. i watched someone play 1+2 in a discord call and i installed thps3 on my computer very soon after. it works with my pro-controller, wireless too. awesome sauce :) i'm used to THUG PRO now though, so it's a little weird.

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 poster

The Forest

a spooky scary... survival horror game? that phrase brings completely different games to mind, but i think that description fits. you have to go find your son (who is hilariously called TIMMY) after being stranded on an island with cannibals and all sorts of fucked up creatures. had alot of fun in this game, building bases is cool but takes long, caves are terrifying but you get used to it. the ending section came out of nowhere and honestly had me more creeped out than the rest of the game, the environmental difference hit me like a truck. cool game, don't know if i'll play the newer one anytime soon.

Nope (2022)

my friend and i watched this movie in 2 sittings, like, a week apart or something. to be honest, i'm not quite sure what the message here was. i liked the characters though, and i liked that monster wasn't just "OHHHH ALIENS". it was a weird fucking animals. once again, i had seen one of the most impactful scenes beforehand, but whatev. cool movie, probs works better after a rewatch.

Ducktales (2017)

in my search for something to watch while my hand recovers, i remembered this series. i'm way late, and only really found out about it in 2020 or 2021 because a friend of mine was really into it (you know who u are :3). now i'm here, and i'm loving it!!!! already halfway thru the show. beautiful art, wonderful characters, great humor and devastating emotional beats!! AUGHH!!!!! it's really hard to pick a favorite, but i love webby and lena's friendship so much. i'm also very not normal about della :((( cries

Rollercoaster Tycoon 2

video that singlehandedly made me wanna try this game:

winning a scenario is surprisingly tough, even on beginner levels. but i'm trying!!! and making cool ass parks too >:) definitely a game you can sink lots of time into. i'm using OpenRCT2 because the internet told me to, and it works great.

i'm especially impressed about the fact that the guy who made this game wrote it all by himself, in assembly. what an absolute chad

Bomb Rush Cyberfunk

i didn't play jet set radio at any point, so i can't compare them, but BRC is stylish and super fun. i find myself comparing it more to THPS3 because that's the skating game i grew up on and that's in my muscle memory. but i'm used to BRC too now and loving it :D hopefully i can play more soon.

August 2023

Carrie (1976)

this is the third horror-movie i watched at the end of august, and i gotta say, it was the most stressful out of the three. from start to finish, it makes you feel real fuckin bad for carrie. weird ghosts taking your son away? not real. being stuck on a cabin on top of a mountain with your husband who's sanity is slowly dwindling? unlikely, but possible. an abusive, overbearingly christian mother, hovering over her daughter at every second? real, and probably has happened many, many times. i wish carrie got a happy ending.

Carrie cover

The Shining (1980)

been on my watchlist for years. i knew it was a classic, i knew the funny "HEEEEERE'S JOHNNY!!!!!" of course, i had seen the still of jack in the snow, but i never knew what happened to the characters fully. i quite liked the place they decided to shoot this movie at; with no people in it the hotel seemed otherworldly.

The Shining cover

Insidious (2010)

meh. standard ghost-spooky-movie to me. but i did feel for the mom tho. and the boy. and i laughed alot when i saw one of those spirits guys just dancing infront of a record player or something. that was funny. sadly i had already seen the big well-known jumpscare from the movie but it was still a bit tense because they were doing lots of shot-reverse shot. but it was cool

Insidious cover

Midnight Snap

a series by snapcube aka. penny parker, specifically a sleep aid series! she's mostly known for the sonic realtime fandubs of course, but her vods are a joy to watch too! i've used them to fall asleep many times.

midnight snap episodes are long videos consisting of game play. they are made to have consistent audio levels, and penny does a great job bringing the coziest of vibes to the table. i highly recommend checking it out if that sounds good!

Camp Camp

a fun adult animated show by rooster teeth. maybe a bit too much with its jokes sometimes but i think it's pretty funny lmao. i first watched it in 2019 or something, and i've been thinking about it again recently because people from a discord server i'm in have been talking about it alot recently. i think the last episode i saw a few years ago was one of the first if the 3rd season. let's see if i get that far this time :P

camp camp poster

Barbie (2023)

funny movie :) honestly i don't have too much to say about it it's been a few weeks already lol but it was entertaining and yes i did cry a little at the end

ALSO i don't wanna make a separate section for this but a friend and i watched some animated barbie movie and i already forgot the name but it was funny. look you didn't hear it from me but there is a website just for princess movies and if that isn't the best thing ever then i don't know

The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks

i was thinking about the 3ds zelda titles i hadn't played, then remembered: my 3ds is fucking homebrewed!!!! so i got them both. i'm a bit scared i might not get to finish it, because the charger or charger port on my 3ds are wildly fucked - but i'm holding out for hope.

so far the game's... okay. the controls are just a little bit whack, especially blowing into the microphone, and the dungeons and town areas seem lackluster. at the same time, i'm just glad not to be playing a fucking open world game.

spirit tracks cover

Super Meat Boy

a classic i've been vaguely aware of for a long time, but i never touched it until now. i was itching to play some kind of precision platformer type deal, and it was on sale, so i thought i'd try! meat boy controls weirdly floaty, and as someone who has put alot of hours into celeste, those different physics feel really weird. i'm managing though! i'm hoping to atleast beat all normal and dark world levels, even if i don't get every collectable.

super meat boy cover

The Simpsons

...feels a little bit strange to put this here for some reason?

i used to watch simpsons sometimes when i was younger, in german of course. i don't even remember what those dubbed voices sound like, anymore. but i've been thinking about watching it for a long time now, starting from the very first episode. i'm really interested in how the show managed to get so popular, and how it's still going after 3 decades. i watched the first 4 episodes earlier today. did you know the very first is a christmas special? not what i was expecting at all, i even went and checked if i got the right one.

one thing i wanna note is just how different it looked back then. they were still animating traditionally, that meant paint on cels - the characters are off model, the lines don't look that clean (or maybe that's just the quality i'm seeing on 123movies) and you can see the shadows bounce off the cels sometime. i wonder if the switch to digital / the more rigid drawing rules will be drawn out or instantaneous.

mostly i was searching for something to watch since i want to let my hands rest alot more. i'm dealing with the triple whammy of being an artist, a gamer AND someone who wants to be a programmer professionally! i'm only 20, but the constant use over the years has already made them feel weird. when i'm bored and wanna rest my hands, i'll make simpsons my go to.

the simpsons cover

DOOM 3

it was on sale and i was interested! ive already played most of the original doom and doom 2 (in a DOS emulator!!!), as well as doom 2016 and eternal which were both pretty fun. i like how this one is going into more of a spooky direction. i DID have to look up the console commands for changing the FOV and the gamma though. hopefully i'll get to play more soon, i'm still very much working on zelda!

DUSK

a very fun boomer shooter i bought on impulse, since i was itching to play a shooty game, AND it was by the same studio that released ULTRAKILL !!! love the graphics, love the enemies, love the atmosphere. very spooky at times! highly recommend :)

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

a huge game while i'm still writing exams in school ??? YES !!! it's been a blast so far, very calming too. can't wait to get home and play more (i am working on my website in school don't mind me)

MINOR SPOILERS AHEAD OBVI !!! but nothing plot related really

my favorite parts so far have been seeing the huge cubes in the air and just KNOWING those are fucking mazes. also DEAR GOD WHY ARE THE TREES APROACHING ME

update: i finished it on the 9th of july. what a beautiful game. i have problems with it, quite alot actually, to the point where i had to take a break at some point and wait it out before i spent 2 days grinding my final objectives and beat it. but overall i had a great time! i was most impressed and shocked by the music - i feel like they went above and beyond to make the game sound amazing. it had some of the best executed emotional moments in any game, EVER honestly. i'm a bit scared about what direction the zelda franchise is gonna go in further entries, but i can worry about that when it comes. i really just wanna replay some of the older ones now. GOT DAMN.

Geometry Dash

a few days ago i got a random urge to get geometry dash on steam since it's just a few bucks. i played it alot on my phone a few years ago. it's a bit sad to see there haven't been any official new levels since i last played but it looks like the community has held up on its own and will continue to do so. very fun game but also very frustrating!!! gamer rage rawrxd

Spore

i think when i was smaller i watched pewdiepie make horrifying creachers in this game and honestly that's the whole appeal to me. i haven't played much because i haven't had much time to think about it, but when i did it was in a call with friends and we laughed alot at the weird gleep glorps. recommend if you just wanna see a few thangs be weird

GIRL IT'S ME. THE NINTENDO 3DS

i recently hacked my 3ds using a pretty cool guide. what an absolute joy, to spit in the face of a company that desperately does not want you playing their old games!

all jokes aside, i highly recommend this to anyone who wants more out of their 3ds. installing everything may take you an hour or two, but shouldn't be all too hard. using that guide, you'll get software to customize themes, manage .cia files (games!) and install those using FUCKING QR CODES !!! how sick is that.

nintendo releasing an update for the 3ds that supposedly made it harder to hack, AFTER they had had already shut down the e-shop, makes me not want to give them money ever again - i have been considering hacking my switch as well. will i go through with that? not sure yet, since i'm kind of scared to; i'd have to inform myself more of the risks and stuff. but god DAMN i am close. stay safe fellow pirates.

The Ghost And Molly McGee

YOU ARE ENTERING HYPERFIX CENTRAL GET OUT BEFORE YOU CAN ! !!!!!!!!!!!!!

i am a genius. i started watching this thing at the PERFECT time, after waiting and forgetting about it for probably a solid year. the owlhouse just ended (RIP IT WAS SO FUCKING GOOD) and this show JUST came back on april 1st i think, after a big hiatus since july. I AM SO SMART

maybe i'm just really easily pleased, maybe i was just tired when i watched the first couple episodes, but i fell in love with tgamm immediately. i think this is the first time in a while that i'm taking a look at an episodic series again, rather than things like TOH or amphibia that have a big overarching plot with lots of serious stuff going on. i'm trying to push through the "dude this is literally a baby show" feeling because of this, but at the end of the day i'm having lots of fun and who cares!!! you can tell they're making it with a kid/young teen audience in mind, and i can definitely feel that i'm not the target audience at some points, but it's very enjoyable nonetheless.

despite not much plot happenings, the show has a great recurring cast of characters from the city of brighton. the show spends a good amount of time with them, so you get to know them and see them develop! a bunch of stuff they establish early on gets referenced again later on which i enjoy alot. every character is multi-faceted, they feel fleshed out and real.

the same thing is the case with the mcgee family!! they're a wonderful bunch of goofs you can get attached to real quick. can i just say: very glad michaela dietz is still continuing her streak of voicing absolute gremlin characters (amethyst, then vee, and now darryl). her voice is instantly recognizable so it was a funny surprise when i watched the first ep.

the 'sunshine and sunshine protector' dynamic is a fantastic one, so seeing it with molly and scratch is a treat!! i love how that turns on its head for a bit in the season 1 finale too!!! molly was so cool!!! it's so funny to me how quick scratch goes from 'get outta here, this is MY house!!!' to 'i guess i'm mcgee adjacent...' to fully being a part of the family. they are all so dear to me.

i love libby!! what a weirdo. scrungly. absolute girlfailure. she's a really good opposite to molly's insanity. i was caught off guard the first time i heard her voice but i think it fits great now. i'm also very interested to see what they'll do with andrea's character! hopefully we'll see her break out of the social-media-star shell (wait, that's libby's thing) that she's fallen into. i want to punch her parents.

the ghost and molly mcgee cover

Moongirl and Devil Dinosaur

what a gorgeous show!!! i love lunella and her funny dog :)

jokes aside, genius scientist characters are super cool, just in this case you've got a.... how old is she??? like a thirteen year old who, apart from having the biggest brain in new york city and being a superhero - is just a normal kid. how did she get the whole hideout thing underneath their place? i dont know. how did she build a fucking portal type thing that a whole ass dinosaur came through, that is now her buddy? i also dont know!!! but i'm here for it and very excited to see where they take this show.

trigun is about a golden retriever man who is so fucking sad. you start watching for the silly billies and then it's pain and more pain. very good !

i watched stampede first if shay or poke or olive see this ily :)

Moons of Darsalon

a game about leading your fellow darsanauts away from danger and back to safety. pretty fun! it took me a bit to get used to the way the camera moves, even when using a controllers, but im good now. there's still a few kinks to iron out i feel, but otherwise this is a really great project - especially considering it was made by one person, over the course of almost a decade! i have nothing but admiration for creators that are so dedicated to their craft.

moons of darsalon cover

ULTRAKILL

game of the fucking month!!!!! fast-paced kill-a-shitton-of-guys-all-over-the-place simulator. i'm so sad the third act isn't out yet. i'm going to p-rank everything i can.

ultrakill is fast, trades weapon quantity for weapon quality, has awesome level and enemy design and overall just fucking rules. i think everyone should give this thing a try, even if you're not that confident in your fps-playing; there are difficulty / accessability options to choose from which i think is really cool. ultrakill throws constant vibe-curveballs at you so the world never feels same-y or boring,,, also has incredibly funny secret levels and in-level hidden stuff for people like me who will abuse rocket riding and similar mechanics to fly around and discover stuff. there's a simple joy in making my way up an eiffel tower that is just there as a backdrop to a level, only to find a tiny texture on the very tip of the tower that is just the FUCKING EIFFEL TOWER AGAIN. it's wonderful.

update: p-2 wait of the world might be where my limit is at. the whole level is a collection of the hardest non-cybergrind enemy encounters they have in the game yet, combined with an ultra fast boss at the end. it's the only level i haven't completed yet, and i've done every p-rank on standard otherwise. i'll probably have to work my way up to this level using the 2 easier difficulties. fuck!!!! i will do it, i'm determined.

i also did a 103 wave harmless-difficulty run in cybergrind and got sub 50 on the global leaderboard which is incredibly funny. every wave made my game lag like shit. it was not comprehensible in any way. the whole thing took one and a half hours and i had to take several breaks inbetween because my body was dying.

Subnautica

subnautica is an ocean exploration game. after your big fuck off space ship crashes, you gotta survive on an alien planet with the resources you gather.

it took me a while to get to this game, mostly because of time and not-having-a-good-enough-computer concerns. my school laptop is pretty good though, and i was able to play it!! i was eating this shit UP the second i started. i love how many different environments there are to explore, the world is HUGE and i dont know how they managed that with the less than 10 gigs of space the game needs.
there's so many different creatures to see! it's one of those things you can only experience once, hearing leviathan screams and spotting one for the first time. out-swimming those guys with the seamoth is so much fun. the sea-dragon leviathan down in the lava place also made me shit myp ants!!!!!!

honestly the only fully negative thing i have to say about this game is the fact that there's no autosaving. i feel they could pretty easily add one,, they're kind of an essential part of games nowadays! i lost roughly 3 hours of progress because i forgot to save one time and it was pretty painful, and there were countless accounts of players experiencing the same thing.

subnautica cover

Pizza Tower

oh you wanna go fast? you wanna run (read: KILL) into a bunch of guys ? ? ? you wanna hear bangin' tunes doing it? boy have i got the game for you.

pizza tower was in development for a few years and came out earlier this year. it's an absolute visual treat and really fun to play!!! i've kind of been neglecting it because of other fixations taking over but i love it so fuckin' much. the boss fights are pretty short but sweet, and the final boss is the best ive seen in a while. i tend to be disappointed of them alot for some reason but this one is so good. i lost my mind AND sleep over it.

i've done 4 level p-ranks, and all the bosses except for the final boss. it's very hard to describe the adrenaline rush when you enter second lap and hear 'the death that i deservioli' blaring in your ears but it's insanity. can not recommend this game enough!!!

pizza tower cover

Terraria

it's minecraft's little brother!!!!! except they don't have thattttt much stuff in common except for...... mining. and crafting.

i've already put 70ish hours into this game before like 2 years ago, but i'm playing again and having a blast. i spent half of my easter holiday grinding and listening to video essays in the background. what a dangerous game to play, you can put countless hours into this thing. i'm hoping to beat the final boss this time around, i didn't get further than golem last time! i'm there now too.

UPDATE i beat moon lord yesterday yipee!!! at this point what i still wanna do is find the last sword i need for the zenith (very much not looking forward to doing that) and beat all the waves of the halloween and winter events.
